About her

Mabel Kotyk

Born: December 10th, 1917

Passed on: January 24th, 2019

Mabel Pauline Kotyk (Galonski) born December 10th, 1917 on a farm in Melnice District, Manitoba, left this earth on January 24, 2019 in Sunnybook Hospital, Toronto. At 101 years her life of service, tending her garden and family, working, cooking, hosting, shopping, listening to and observing others, and admiring and bringing beauty into this world, will be sorely missed.

Trained as a nurse by the Sisters of St Joseph,Winnipeg, her career spanned four decades at St Michael's Hospital. One of Golly's legacies was to co-develop the Standard of Practice for Operating Room Nurses in Ontario.

She leaves behind her children Paul (Biljana Milicevic) and Marianna (Don Richardson); grandaughter Julie Collins (Jaime and Daniel); her sister-in-law Mary Galonsky, Winnipeg; and numerous nieces and nephews in Winnipeg, Regina, Parry Sound, and Creston. She is predeceased by her parents Nikola and Palaska (Louis Twerdun), husband Nicholas, five infant siblings, brothers Walter (Phyllis) Galonski and Joseph Galonsky; and sisters Rose (Philip) Skwarek and dear Stella Smith. The Toronto Ukrainian family of friends have all gone before Michalina.

The family extends its deepest thanks for the care she received at The Teddington from their warm and caring staff, SPRINT, the Anne Johnston Health Station (now Vibrant Health), the Temmy Latner Palliative Care Team, and Sunnybrook Hospital K1E unit, all of whom took care of our mother in her final years.

A funeral was held on Thursday, January 31st, 2019 at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre. A donation made in Mabel's memory to any of the groups mentioned above would be appreciated. “Find the place to do it easily.” Mabel.

but to honour and advance the cause,

the work we have taken up."
